Company!

We had company this weekend! Our first non-family, honest-to-goodness company came over to grill out yesterday in the form of John’s coworker, his wife, and their 3.5 year old son. It was great getting to know another family in a similar situation – they came up here all the way from Kansas for the job. The boys definitely stole the show, though.

Nolan took a little while to warm up to his new pal C. While the grownups talked and grilled and cooked, the little guys were each busy doing their own thing in the backyard. Once we came inside to eat, though, all bets were off!

I have never seen our little guy so engaged with play, not even with myself or John. The boys chased each other all over the living room, occasionally pausing to watch Lightning McQueen do his thing. Nolan showed C his patented bouncing-couch-dismount, and the giggling never stopped.

To get a little sentimental, it was a balm to our souls, watching Nolan play with another child. Not just the side-by-side play they say is typical of his age group, either. The boys were chasing each other around, laughing, making eye contact, interacting. You know… being normal kids.

Didn't stop this guy from getting up to his usual tricks.

We’re headed into more spring-like weather this week, so hopefully we can get some quality playground time in. Maybe now that he’s seen how much fun other kids can be, we’ll have an easier time making friends when we go!

I think even this guy may be getting tired of books and movies and his indoor wrestling ring.

The library setup in that windowsill photo was all his doing, by the way. I stack the books on an end table. He sets them up for display!

And speaking of wrestling rings, this is what happened when John got off work a couple of hours early over the weekend:

Saying all this to say, it was a great weekend.

Snuggles

Hope your week is off to a good start!

(P.S. Cousins Jeremy and Lindsay, your family is in our thoughts and prayers today. Sending all the love and hugs the internet will allow!)
