Our Summer So Far – Part 2 of 3

Happy Monday, all!

As I mentioned in our last post, we’ve been awfully busy this summer. Good thing we brought Auntie M along to help!

This sums up the last few weeks pretty well!
This sums up the last few weeks pretty well — strolling along the water at Banning State Park in Minnesota. We got in free for national Get Outdoors Day!

Fresh out of Indiana University’s top-ranked Kelley School of Business, we convinced Auntie M to come visit for a little while before she heads off to her fancy new job Down South.

Good thing, too. These bubbles don't blow themselves, and mom and dad have proven to be hopeless at them!

She’s made it her personal mission to ensure Little Man has mastered both toss-and-catch (the toddler version of pitch-and-catch, naturally) and the most important letters in the alphabet.

I'm convinced he's halfway to reading them already!

She’s also pretty good at giving him a hard time. (No surprise to those of us who’ve had to put up with her the last couple decades.) On her first trip to the train park in Cloquet, she promptly began setting his toy rings out of reach!

He got the hang of it pretty quickly.

We also discovered the largest waterfalls in all Wisconsin. Turns out, they’re just outside the city limits!

Little Manitou Falls (the smaller sister falls in the same park) were pretty gorgeous in their own right.

We also made an impromptu stop at Jay Cooke State Park. It might be the most beautiful place I’ve seen, and we barely scratched the surface on that enormous park.

(I have neither the equipment nor the skill to do the scenery justice. Do yourself a favor and scroll through Google Images to see more.)

Snapped this photo at a little bend in the St. Louis River on our way out of the park.

And of course, we couldn’t let Auntie M leave without showing her the biggest local attraction.

We found the Sister Cities crossing…

Right in front of the most beautiful overlook.

Definitely our spot for that afternoon. Great view, plenty of rocks and benches to climb on, and we had it all to ourselves!

In other words, we’re having a blast. Poor John has been stuck at work most days, but we have managed to sample some local wares on his days off. If you get the chance, check out South Shore Brewery, Fitger’s Brewhouse, and Canal Park Brewing Company.

(Notice a theme, here?)

Also, Auntie M would like to personally recommend the cheese curds at Fitger’s. She’s declared them the best in either state.

If you want to read about the first part of our summer, you can check out Part 1 of 3 here. The conclusion to our three-part episode, including our biggest news of the year so far, comes out Friday!
